Where do hedgehogs live?

Reading Time: 1 minute

Dougal is “royalty” and lives in a purpose-build hedgehog house. But, most of his spiky friends usually make themselves at home under your shed, in a compost heap or in a log pile – it provides them with warmth and tasty grubs! And, as their name suggests – they love hogging the hedges, too!

Hogs are very mobile, though, so they rarely stay in the same house throughout one season. Each night, Dougal and friends can roam the distance of around 1.5. – 2 kilometres, searching for different sources of food and water to drink.

Hedgehogs remember the areas where the best diners are, so they frequently come back to the same spots as before and can move back into the homes they previously abandoned. After a lot of house decoration and renovation! Naturally.

Remember:
Always check bonfire stacks, wood log piles and compost heaps before using any sharp or heavy garden tools or lighting fires for barbecues. And, of course – be careful when trimming the hedges! Check for hogs first.
